Antoine Bouvard Biography

Antoine Bouvard was a painter of Venetian and genre subjects who worked during the early part of the 20th Century. He became one of the most prolific painters of Venetian genre from this period. It is believed that Marc Aldine is a pseudonym for Antoine Bouvard Snr.
Bouvard’s works are broad and confidently painted, capturing all the atmosphere and charm of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. He exhibited throughout France and Italy as well as in many provincial European galleries during his own lifetime.
A number of Bouvard collectors note that they admire his backwater views for their greater sense of intimacy. These scenes convey a serene and romantic side of Venice which many of us hope to find when we visit.
His popularity has continued to the present day, placing him amongst the most recognized and respected painters of Venetian subjects.
