Sydney Robert Watson was a painter, watercolourist and etcher. He was born in Enfield, Middlesex in 1892 and is also known to have lived in Leicester. Watson studied at the Royal College of Art 1911 - 15 and exhibited 1921 - 39.The artist is renowned for his use of intricate detail and broad use of varying light. All his scenes have a tremendous sense of depth with the landscape undulating with believable realism. His skies, equal in execution, echo throughout his scenes with authority. Works by Sydney Watson are held by the Royal Society of Artists – Birmingham, Manchester City Art Gallery, Nottingham Museum and Art Gallery, the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy.
