Paper clay layered to imitate the trunk of a palm tree
Size (inches): 6 (h) x 12 (ø) inches
Size (cm): 15.2 (h) x 30.5 (ø) cm
Anna Iffland was born in Shrewsbury, England in 1967 and studied Art and Design at Shrewsbury 6th Form College. She started working in ceramics in 2005 and specializes in paper clay. This particular medium is extremely flexible and allows the artist a greater freedom to create intricate, sculpted designs unlike traditional clay body. The additional benefits of paper clay result in art pieces that are not only durable but also light weight. Each piece is kiln fired to 1000 degrees, enabling each finished article to be used for exteriors as well as interiors. Anna's work is totally bespoke and is a fusion of function and form.
Anna is married to a British Army officer and this lifestyle has allowed her to live for long periods in Europe and Africa. Anna draws inspiration from her surroundings, not least from the dramatic scenery of her adopted home, the Vercors, France.
Anna's work has sold in the prestigious V & A Centre Cape Town South Africa and she exhibits in France and England, where she was recently commissioned to provide a display vase for Selfridges, London, as well as being supported by Callaghan Fine Paintings!
