A Dublin born fine genre painter who exhibited over 70 paintings at The Royal Academy from 1847. This work in many ways is typical of the sort of genre painting in which the sentimentality of the subject-matter is of paramount importance. In The Strawberry Pickers, he included the two dogs, the loving Grandfather and adorable children, to ensure that the painting would appeal to as many viewers as possible
