Lionel Aggett Biography

Lionel was born in 1938 in Widdon Down on the edge of Dartmoor, Devon. He was educated at Exeter School and Kingston School of Art and Architecture, whilst there he was awarded two study scholarships to Venice and Rome. He was elected a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1967 and while practising won six architectural awards. Painting had always been his first love and in 1991 he gave up architecture to devote himself to painting full time.

He had his first solo exhibition at the Truro Galleries in 1968 and since that time his work has been shown from Harrogate to Bristol, from Chester to Salcombe, of course London and many group exhibitions such as the Pastel Society and the Royal Watercolour Society.

Lionel is the author of four books, demonstrating the technique of pastel painting.

Sadly Lionel passed away on 21^st February 2009. Lionel was an exceptional man and his incredible talent will be sorely missed.
