William Penn Morgan was born in London England in 1826 and went to America early in life. He studied in New York at the National Academy of Design in 1851, where he became an Associate Member in 1862, and a member of the Artists Fund Society. He also studied in Le Harve, France. His specialty was portraits and genre. He Exibited 71 paintings at the National Gallery between 1861 and 1900, with many paintings priced between $800 to $1,200 in the 1880's and 1890's. He also exibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in 1885 and 1888. He died in New York City in 1900. Paintings by this artist are in the collection of: the New York Academy of Design, NY; the New York Historical Society; the Peabody Institute, Baltimore MD; Shith College Museum of Art, Northampton MA; Brigham Young University Museum of Art, UT; the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh NC.
