Calabuig was born in Albalat dels Sorells, Valencia, in 1946. Landscaper by nature, Calabuig always had a passion for nature and the surrounding landscape where he lives in Southern Spain. He started painting and his charming style soon attracted many art collectors and galleries around Spain and Europe. He has participated in numerous exhibitions.
He started an apprenticeship at a very young age with the painter Antonio Torregrosa, who teaches and mentors Francisco. This contributed greatly to his artistic development. Later on in Valencia 1973, he has his first exhibit at the ‘Associacio de la Premsa’. Since then, his work has been presented in more than 90 solo exhibits and multiple collective exhibitions.
Calabuig is an impressionist using simple, calm brushstrokes and light impasto to create vibrant, landscapes that play on light, colour, and movement. His themes explore the countryside, with farmhouses, beautiful trees and bushes set against the violet and blue background of the sky. He tends to paint small scale, but this only enhances his intricate detail and bold colours.
