It was in Monmarte that Picasso and George Braque co-founded Cubsim, one of the most famous and influential art movements of the 201th Century. Venard was clearly influenced by this adopting a Post Cubist style accentiating a chromatic range of colour, and using thick applications of paint with a pallet knife.
