A painter of marines and coastal subjects strongly associated with the Royal Society of Artists. Scott, as well as painting shipping portraits for some of his wealthy clientele, also executed a number of works of British and American clippers. Scott's palette is striking, with all surfaces and elements observed, capturing every movement in full flow. Particularly notable are his skies, which move the subject helping the canvas feel alive. His works have often been confused with those of Montague Dawson.
